Mavs Reunite with Nerlens Noel Via Buyout

Former Mavericks Center Returns After 5 Years

Noel Agrees to Buyout with Pistons

DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Mavericks have acquired center Nerlens Noel via a buyout with the Detroit Pistons, the team announced today.

Noel, 28, previously played for the Mavericks from February 2017 to June 2017, averaging 8.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 25 games. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Justin Anderson and Andrew Bogut.

After stints with the Thunder, New Orleans Pelicans, and New York Knicks, Noel signed a three-year, $32 million contract with the Pistons in December 2022. However, his tenure in Detroit was marked by injuries and limited playing time.

Noel reportedly turned down a two-year, $72 million contract extension from the Mavericks before the 2017-18 season. He has averaged 7.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game over his NBA career.

The Mavericks are hoping that Noel can provide some much-needed depth and rebounding in the paint. Dallas is currently 34-29 and in eighth place in the Western Conference.

Noel is expected to make his debut for the Mavericks on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings.
