North Korea's Unusual Exit of Russian Diplomats
A Hand-Pushed Rail Trolley Escape
In an extraordinary turn of events, a group of Russian diplomats and their families have made a bizarre exit out of North Korea on a hand-pushed rail trolley due to stringent Covid-19 measures in the hermit kingdom.
North Korea's Tightened Border Security
North Korea has been implementing strict Covid-19 restrictions, including the closure of its borders and a lockdown of its capital, Pyongyang. The country has also spent the pandemic building a massive border wall along its frontiers with China and Russia, further restricting movement.
A Diplomatic Dilemma
The Russian diplomats' unusual exit is reportedly a result of heightened security measures, which have made it difficult for them to travel freely. With no other means of transportation available, they resorted to the manual labor-intensive trolley.
Previous Diplomatic Escapes
This is not the first time that North Korea has seen an unusual diplomatic escape. In July 2021, Choe Kum Chol, a 33-year-old North Korean military information technology officer, fled his North Korean minders in Russia.
