Upset In Semifinals

Sabalenka's French Open Hopes Crushed by Muchova

Upset in Semifinals

Aryna Sabalenka's quest for a first French Open final appearance ended abruptly on Thursday when she was upset by Karolina Muchova in the semifinals. The Belarusian, who was the fifth seed, fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to the unseeded Czech player.

Muchová's Stellar Performance

Muchova, who had previously reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2021, put in a dominant display on Thursday. She broke Sabalenka's serve three times and hit 14 winners to only 6 for Sabalenka. The Czech also saved three break points to secure the victory.

Sabalenka, who had been in impressive form this season, including winning the Stuttgart Open and reaching the final in Madrid, was disappointed with her performance. "I didn't play my best today," she said. "I made too many unforced errors and she played a great match."

Muchova will now face Camila Giorgi in the final on Saturday, where she will be seeking her first Grand Slam title. Giorgi, the 30th seed, defeated Martina Trevisan in the other semifinal.
