Para Equestrians Back in the Saddle for Tokyo 2020
Paralympic Dressage Competition Heats Up in Tokyo
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Paralympic dressage is back in full force at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The equestrian events are taking place at the Equestrian Park in Tokyo, Japan, from August 24th to September 4th, 2021.
Dressage is a discipline in which horse and rider perform a series of predetermined movements. In Paralympic dressage, riders are classified into five different grades based on the severity of their disability. Grade I is for riders with the most severe disabilities, while Grade V is for riders with the least severe disabilities.
The Paralympic dressage competition consists of three phases: the team test, the individual test, and the freestyle test. In the team test, riders compete in teams of three. The individual test is an individual competition, and the freestyle test is a musical interpretation of dressage movements.
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will feature 78 para equestrians from 28 countries. The United States is sending a team of six riders, including two-time Paralympic medalist Rebecca Hart.
The Paralympic dressage competition is sure to be exciting. With so many talented riders competing, the medals are up for grabs.
