Roosters' premiership hopes hanging by a thread
Sydney Roosters' premiership hopes are hanging by a thread after they suffered a shock 20-10 loss to the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday night.
The defending premiers were outplayed by the Sharks in all facets of the game, with the visitors scoring three tries to two and dominating possession and field position. The loss leaves the Roosters in sixth place on the NRL ladder, two points outside the top four with just two games remaining in the regular season. The Roosters have a tough run home, with games against the Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs, so they will need to win both matches to have any chance of making the finals.
The Sharks, on the other hand, are now in fourth place on the ladder and are well placed to make the finals for the first time since 2018.
The Sharks have won their last three games and are starting to find some form at the right end of the season. They will be confident of beating the Wests Tigers next week and then they will have a tough game against the Penrith Panthers in the final round of the regular season.
If the Sharks can win both of those games, they will finish in the top four and secure a home final.
The Roosters, on the other hand, will be hoping that the Sharks slip up and that they can win their last two games to sneak into the top four. It's going to be a tough ask, but the Roosters have shown in the past that they are capable of anything.
